Yesterday was a fun night out with the Nuffies courtesy of our very nice boss Stewie.
He took us to catch the MACC (Malaysian Association of Chinese Comedians) at PJLA, Jaya One.
First off was dinner at Duck King. We were all hemming and hawing at first because Duck King is known to be great but pricey, but boss decided to treat us!
It lived up to its reputation: the duck was as juicy as ever and the fried kailan was superb. As boss observed though, it turned something healthy into something oily.

Then was the show proper. One and a half hours of side splitting jokes opening with Chi Ho, Jen Han, and closing with Douglas Lim.
It was my first time watching live stand-up comedy and I can honestly say I wasn’t disappointed and was surprised that Malaysian comedy could be so good. Definitely worth watching if you haven’t seen it yet (it’s showing only up till Sunday, details here). There were takes on very recent events “The Chinese couldn’t have been behind the pig head incident. We never waste food!”, classic relationship jokes “Valentine’s Day: The day girls can show their friends how much their boyfriend loves them”, and of course racy race humour “I should try some reverse discrimination: walk up to an Indian and rob him!”
If you were from my generation you’d remember Douglas Lim from the sitcom Kopitiam, probably the only local English sitcom ever worth watching and which had one of my favourite songs, Empty Decorations, as its theme. Felt a bit starstruck there. He was the anchor for the night and boy did he have us in stitches.

Again, if you haven’t seen it yet you really should – as they declared: We’re lighter than Comedy Court and cheaper than Harith Iskandar!” . The Wednesday show was sold out.
(I observed that the PJLA and Comedy Court sites both don’t have any kind of RSS feed though. Worth looking into to keep fans updated.)
