Ahmad has been stripped of party posts and suspended from UMNO for 3 years. Fitting enough in my book – although from the reports that are coming in there is still a simmering conflict in the works. Some called for the ISA or Sedition Act to be used against Ahmad, but I think it would have been a bad idea. We have been protesting against these draconian laws which allow detention without trial for years; what hypocrites we would be if we endorse them when they fit our ends. Anwar has promised to release those jailed under the ISA if he becomes PM – he can’t go “Okok all you guys in Kamunting can go home now, except Ahmad!”. Using unfair laws, even to our advantage, would have made him a matyr, and down the road it would have come back to bite us in the ass.
